 CLOSED BETA FAQ

Q: What is Gone Viral?

After the apocalypse, life continues in a world full of mutants, warbots, and REAL bloodsports drawing vicious audiences.

You are a gladiator battling to escape this prison arena for the amusement and admiration of the bloodthirsty crowd.

Your key to freedom? Win over Fans with crazy combos, earning strands of the Mutation Virus. Slaughtering with style generates the carnage needed to Go Viral.

Q: Cool blurb, but what type of game is it?

Gone Viral is an over-the-top, randomly generated action melee/shooter with heavy roguelike elements for the PC. Being a roguelike(-lite) means the dungeon you’re in is different every time, and death comes frequently! On the plus side - each run should feel quite unique.

You’ll unlock scores of mutations and weapons that fundamentally change your gameplay, doubling down on unique synergies and combinations of powers for a deep and deadly rogue-lite experience.

  • Pinball Combat: Weaponize your enemies by walloping 'em into other combatants and deathtraps to REALLY get fans excited. Is it a shooter or a melee game if you're using bad guys as projectiles?

  • Kill with Skill: Crazy combos earn the carnage your unhinged viewers love. They'll send you creatively deadly weapons, oddball gadgets, and strands of the Mutation Virus.

  • Go Viral: Mutations alter you and your attacks in fundamental, combinatorial ways. Every arena run and every near-inevitable death is a unique experience.

Q: What does Closed Beta mean for ya?

Good question - Closed Beta means different things on different games.

The Closed part means it is invite only. If you haven’t yet been invited please go here, enter your info, and we’ll try to get you in!

The Beta part means that we’re proud of the game but it’s not quite to the point where we’re really ready for prime time - but are very actively adding new stuff, ripping stuff out, and changing things. We’re a small team, so changes happen fast, but we’re a small team, so changes happen in increments we can handle.

Q: How Super-Secret is this?

You can generally be open about being in Closed Beta!

It’s OK to post screenshots or videos, comment on the game, or let others know you’re in the beta - all of that.

Obviously, if there are things you dislike, we’d rather you told us about it so we can fix it (our Discord is a great place for this!) rather than leaving us an Amy’s Baking Company style Yelp review. But hey, we’re not the boss of ya.

One request - if you’re press or do pro gaming reviews for a living please do reach out to us first, so we know what’s going on.

And if you’re a pro streamer (or any kinda streamer) do let us know before you stream for an entirely different reason. If we’re available we’ll want to join the stream so we can make sure our Twitch integration works under pressure, since it’s hard to test alone in our office.

Q: Gone Viral doesn’t run for me!

Well, if that’s because you’re not on the PC - man, that sucks for now. We’d like to hit other platforms as time and money allows.

If you don’t meet the min specs we list here on Steam, and have confirmed you can’t run, please do let us know. If there are easy things we can do to let people play, getting info always helps us to take a look at it, and knowing folks want to play but can’t might give us the push we need to try to broaden specs.

If you are on the PC, do meet the min specs, and things have issues or run at a crawl - also let us know on email or discord! We’ll request some files from you and try to track down what the scoop is.

Closed Beta is the first time we’ve had a wide range of different machines running the game, so we expect some issues - but things have run well so far, so we don’t expect issues. The version of us that is pessimistic generally is right more often than not, but we’ll see.

Q: When does Closed Beta end?

We might well bring Closed Beta up and down a few times (usually called going dark). Generally this’d be if we have big things to work on and our small-but-elite core team has to focus briefly on those changes and won’t have time to do fixes to the Live Version. Hopefully not! But we’ll see. We’ll be in Closed Beta until we feel like we’re ready to move on to the next stage - and we’re not sure how long that’ll be as it all depends on what feedback we get.

Q: What comes next?

We’re gearing up for Early Access - where it won’t be exclusively invite-only, but where people can pay to play the game while we add content and tune things.

How we transition folks from Closed Beta participation into Early Access isn’t something we have full info on yet (it’ll involve working with Steam, etc.) but we’ll let you know as we have answers. For folks who have helped us out a lot with feedback in particular, we’ll try to have your back as much as we can, since you’ve had our backs in helping us out.

Thanks!
